Signal-to-noise ratio
Signal-to-noise ratio compares the wanted signal level with the unwanted noise level.

Explanation
A stronger signal-to-noise ratio gives cleaner recordings. Poor gain staging, noisy equipment, or weak input levels can make noise more obvious.
