Overdubbing

Overdubbing means recording a new part while listening to material that has already been recorded.

Level relevance: introduced at Nat 4; tagged for every later level where the same concept remains useful.

Explanation

Overdubbing allows additional parts to be layered onto an existing recording. A singer may overdub harmonies, or a guitarist may record another part over a backing track. This technique is useful for building arrangements gradually and for fixing or replacing individual parts without re-recording everything.
