Workflow

Organising session files and backups

A cross-level workflow guide for keeping project folders, exports, stems, and version saves organised so that coursework stays manageable.

Across all levels, one of the easiest ways to lose marks unnecessarily is poor organisation. Missing files, badly named exports, and overwritten sessions can make even strong practical work difficult to manage.

Use a clear folder structure from the start. Keep audio, project files, exports, notes, and reference material in predictable places.

Name sessions consistently. A version system such as v1, v2, v3 or dated saves makes it much easier to return to earlier decisions if something goes wrong.

Backups matter. A coursework project should never exist in only one location if you can avoid it.

Organisation may not feel as creative as recording or mixing, but it supports every stage of the process and makes serious mistakes much less likely.

Key tips

  • Use clear folders and file names.
  • Save new versions instead of overwriting everything.
  • Keep at least one backup copy.
