Managing two production tasks at National 5

Advice for staying organised when the National 5 assignment requires two tasks rather than one single production.

National 5 coursework involves two tasks, so organisation becomes much more important than at lower levels. The challenge is not only creating the work, but keeping both tasks controlled and clearly documented in your own mind.

Treat each task as its own project. Give each one a clear folder, consistent file naming, and separate notes on planning, progress, and evaluation.

Even if both tasks use similar techniques, they should not blur into one another. You should be able to explain the goal, process, and outcome of each task distinctly.

Build a simple timeline. Decide when you will finish initial planning, gather sounds, record material, complete editing, and review the final result for each task.

The main risk is leaving one task too late because the other feels more interesting or easier. Balanced progress usually leads to much stronger final coursework.

Key tips

  • Keep separate folders and notes for each task.
  • Do not let one task consume all your time.
  • Track progress across both tasks from the start.
